EASA Medical

As you may be aware, there is currently a lengthy wait for Dual CAA & EASA Medicals in the UK.

Many of our students and graduates have ventured abroad for their EASA Medical, which has much better availability.

Whilst we are not directly affiliated with any EASA Medical providers, our students and graduates have previously had their EASA Medicals with the following organisations:

FAQs

What is the £5,000 bursary?

The £5,000 bursary is a financial assistance program offered by Leading Edge Aviation for prospective pilot students. A limited number of bursaries are available for students who sign up to start their course in May, June, and July 2023.

Who is eligible for the bursary?

The bursary is open to all prospective pilot students who enrol in a qualifying pilot training course at Leading Edge Aviation starting in Spring and Summer 2023. You will need to have successfully completed a Skills Assessment and have a valid Class 1 Medical certificate for both CAA and EASA.

How do I apply for the bursary?

To apply for the bursary, simply follow the ‘Apply Now’ form at the bottom of the application section on this page.

How many bursaries are available?

The number of available bursaries is limited to 25 bursaries of £5000 and are available on a first come, first served basis.

Can I combine this bursary with other financial aid options?

You may be eligible for other financial aid options including student finance which you can combine with the bursary.

How much will I pay for the course if I am successful in being awarded a bursary?

This will depend on your own personal situation and whether you are eligible for a student loan and the value of that student loan. If you are eligible for the maximum maintenance student loan and combine that with the bursary discount of £5,000, the total you would pay is £66,588 (plus student loans to be repaid). The amount payable without the maintenance loan and solely the tuition fee loan of £18,500 would be £86,000 (plus student loans to be repaid).  If you have already completed a degree and are not eligible for the tuition fee loan, the amount payable would be £104,500.

Can I defer my enrolment and still receive the bursary?

The bursary is specifically for students starting their course in the Spring and Summer 2023, up to 31st July. If you defer your enrolment to a later date, you will not be eligible for this bursary.

Who can I contact for more information about the bursary?

For more information about the £5,000 bursary, please contact Leading Edge Aviation’s sales team by phone, email, or through their website. They will be happy to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.

What medical certification will I need?

You will need a CAA and EASA Class 1 medical certificate for a dual licence.

I want to take up the bursary offer but I can’t get a UK medical assessment appointment in time for a May, June or July start date. What can I do?

We understand that there are some delays in booking dual CAA and EASA medicals currently in the UK. You will need to find an Aeromedical Centre (AeMC) who can provide you with both a CAA and EASA Class 1 medical certificate. This can be done in the UK or Europe as long as the AeMC is approved to do both. You do not need to get both done at the same time so you may find it speeds things up to have them done separately. This link takes you to a list of approved AeMC centres in UK and Europe.

Can I start my training before I get my Class 1 medical

No, you need to have a Class 1 medical certificate before you commence your training.

Can I book a course now and start later than 31 July 2023 if I can’t get my medical.

Unfortunately, this offer only applies to courses starting before 31 July 2023.

Can I apply for the bursary if I've already enrolled in a course starting later than July?

Unfortunately, this bursary offer is only applicable to new students enrolling in our Dual Licence LEAP courses starting before 31 July 2023.

What if I don't pass the Skills Assessment?

To be eligible for the bursary, you must pass the Skills Assessment. If you do not pass, you will not be eligible for the £5,000 bursary

Can I transfer the bursary to another person or course?

No, the bursary is non-transferable and can only be applied to the eligible Dual Licence LEAP courses starting in May, June, or July 2023.
