Leading Edge Aviation Launches Integrated Pilot Training Partnership

With First Student Pilot Cohort to Commence Training in February 2027

Leading Edge Aviation and TUI Airways are delighted to announce their exclusive new partnership, providing an exciting career pathway for aspiring airline pilots to progress directly from training into the commercial flight deck.

The programme will be officially launched at Pilot Careers Live, Heathrow on Saturday 7th November and applications can also be made via LEA’s website.

A Direct Route from Training to Airline Career

The first cohort of student pilots selected through the partnership will start training in February 2027 and these successful applicants will be given a conditional offer of employment with TUI Airways at the start of their Integrated ATPL training programme with Leading Edge Aviation.

The collaboration provides an exciting dual opportunity for aspiring pilots to train with Europe’s leading flight academy whilst taking the first steps in their professional career with one of Europe’s major leisure airlines.

Delivering Airline-Ready Pilots

Successful candidates will complete Leading Edge Aviation’s highly regarded Integrated ATPL programme, designed to take students from little or no flying experience through the technical and practical training required to achieve their frozen Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).

Unlike traditional flight training pathways that focus solely on achieving licence requirements, all student pilots at Leading Edge Aviation also benefit from the company’s unique Whole Pilot® programme.   Widely recognised throughout the airline industry this enhanced training helps student pilots develop the wider professional and personal skills and knowledge needed to meet the demands of a future airline career, such as leadership, communication, decision-making, resilience, wellbeing and professionalism.

A Shared Commitment to Future of Aviation

The partnership reflects TUI Airways’ commitment to developing a high-calibre professional pilot workforce by working closely with training organisations that consistently demonstrate excellence in pilot development.

Leading Edge Aviation was selected based on its highly effective and holistic training approach, outstanding student support and track record of producing highly skilled, airline-ready graduates.

As airline recruitment continues to grow, both organisations recognise the importance of understanding the future needs of the industry and tailoring the training of the next generation of professional pilots to meet those needs.

Through this partnership, TUI Airways and Leading Edge Aviation are committed to creating a professional pathway that supports aspiring aviators from the very start of their training through to the start of a successful future airline career.

Andy McFarlane, CEO of Leading-Edge Aviation, said:

“We are incredibly proud to deepen our relationship with TUI Airways through this new pathway.  This collaboration is a significant endorsement of the quality of our training, our Whole Pilot® programme and, above all, the calibre of the pilots graduating from Leading Edge Aviation.

Alongside our existing TUI tagging programme, this new pathway creates further opportunities for both aspiring pilots and student pilots already training with Leading Edge. For someone considering a career as a pilot, the offer of a clearly defined career pathway into one of the UK’s leading airlines from the outset is an exciting and compelling opportunity.”

Mark Howarth, Head of Pilot Management – TUI Airline Flight Operations of TUI   Airways said:

“It’s an absolute pleasure to continue our long-standing relationship with Leading Edge Aviation by launching this mentored scheme for ab-initio pilots to study at Leading Edge with the prospect of joining TUI Airline in the U.K. for Summer 2029. Over recent years, TUI has recruited more than 50 pilots who completed their flight training with Leading Edge Aviation, many of whom are now flying Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft across our global network. This new mentored pathway builds on that successful relationship”

Looking Ahead

Applications for the inaugural February 2027 intake will open today with type rating dates from December 2028. The partnership represents an exciting new chapter for both organisations and further strengthens Leading Edge Aviation’s position as the leading European provider of airline-focused pilot training.
