Flight Training vs. University
Choosing between university and flight training is a common crossroads for many students. The great news is that with Leading Edge Aviation’s LEAP programme, you don’t have to choose just one. Our LEAP programme seamlessly integrates commercial flight training with a BSc degree in Air Transport Management. This means you get the best of both worlds: hands-on flight experience and a valuable university degree.
Even if your A-levels didn’t go as planned, don’t worry! The core requirement for our academy is 5 GCSEs at Level 4 or above (including Maths and a science – ideally Physics). The all-inclusive LEAP programme not only covers your accommodation and provides a Training Guarantee but is also eligible for student finance of £18,500 towards your fees and additional maintenance payments based on your circumstances, just like a traditional university degree.

Next Steps
The first step in your flight training journey is to sit a Skills Assessment. This includes online aptitude testing, a competency-based interview, and a team-based group exercise to assess your skills as a future airline pilot. Our Skills Assessments are available in person at our Oxford Campus, and they cost £150 per sitting.
Eligibility Criteria
– Be 18 years or older on the first day of training
– Have a UK Passport or Right to Remain in the UK
– Hold 5 GCSEs including English, Maths, and Physics at Grade 4 or higher
– Be able to obtain a DBS Basic Disclosure Certificate for airport security
