The ultimate goal of Leading Edge Aviation’s students is to secure role as a First Officer for an airline, and after nearly 2 years’ hard work – securing their first role in the flight deck is the ultimate reward. To help inspire and inform our students, Leading Edge Aviation were delighted to welcome Wizz Air UK to the academy this month, to give a presentation and to talk about their own journeys to the flight deck. It was great to see so many of our graduates return to the academy along with our current students. Our simulator centre ‘Hangar 18’ was full of excitement about the chance to hear from one of the world’s fastest growing airlines.

Throughout the pandemic Wizz Air and Leading Edge Aviation both worked hard to continue operations, with Wizz Air going against the grain and in the midst of a global lockdown, opening multiple new bases throughout Europe, after launching a wide number of routes and recruiting throughout 2020 and 2021 – Wizz Air continues to show aggressive growth and is further increasing their market share as the days go by. Leading Edge Aviation were the first flight school in the UK to return to the skies after working with the UK CAA and the Department for Transport to build a comprehensive plan which allowed our students to safely return to the skies.

Captain John Meares, Wizz Air UK’s Head of Flight Operations, and Captain Thomas Beale, Wizz Air UK’s Pilot Recruitment Coordinator, joined us for the afternoon where they led a presentation followed by an extremely generous amount of time for a lot of questions from our keen graduates and students!

As part of the presentation, Captain Meares also spoke about Wizz Air UK’s history and their expansion plans in the future. With Wizz Air’s future plans for growth really exciting us at Leading Edge Aviation, it was great to hear how Wizz Air UK keeps going from strength to strength, with a huge amount of aircraft on order, even more route growth and a large ongoing recruitment campaign – a great sign for our students and graduates!

As well as this, the similarities between Wizz Air UK and LEAL were amazing (and it wasn’t just the fact that both companies have 6 directors!). Wizz Air’s values of inclusivity, positivity, integrity and dedication all resonate with our own at Leading Edge Aviation and it is something we are really proud of our students and graduates for displaying throughout their time with us. We find there are huge synergies between Wizz Air and Leading Edge Aviation found the presentation by the Wizz Air UK team confirmed this!

As Wizz continue to be innovative and shake up the airline industry, it reminded us of our own innovative, hands-on approach to flight training and how we are excited to continue changing the norm in the flight training industry!

We will be following their journey with interest as they carve out the future of commercial flying and continue to be among the industry leaders making waves throughout the sector. We look forward to our aircraft and hopefully more of our graduates sharing the skies with one of the most exciting airlines in the space, over the coming years.
