Leading Edge Aviation wins Polys award for XR virtual cockpit

Leading Edge Aviation (LEAL), in collaboration with Playko Software have won the Augmented Reality Experience of the Year for their A320 cockpit simulator at the 2021 WebXR Awards, The Polys. The two organisations, who have been developing the award-winning software since 2018 are delighted with the recognition from the WebXR community.

The XR simulator is a multiplayer experience that LEAL use to support their industry leading APS MCC course. Gone are traditional practise methods, instead, students use the XR experience to prepare for their simulator time by embedding muscle memory through extensive flow training.

An integral element to the project’s development was the input of two LEAL graduates, Kieran Westlake and Alex Ramos. Having recently completed their APS MCC training, their knowledge of the A320 ensured Yinch and the team at Playko were able to fully integrate start up procedures and flows within the XR experience.

Our Chief Information Officer Jeremy Bolduc commented “This award comes as we look to further integrate multiplayer WebXR into our future. Having already integrated v360 video, AR and gamification into our training, this award is testament to our belief and investment in early adoption strategies, ensuring our training is world class.”

LEAL look forward to further announcements over the coming months as they continue to push traditional training boundaries, as they deliver pilots of the future to airlines!
