Ground School in Southern Spain: An Interview with Chief Instructor, Gordon King

Considering pilot training in Southern Spain? Here’s all you need to know about Ground School in Alhama

Earlier this year we announced that our new Integrated fATPL course will be launching at our Alhama Campus in October.

Gordon King, who is currently a Senior TKI at our Oxford Campus, has excitedly shared that he will be taking on the important role as Chief Instructor at our Alhama Campus, stating that he ‘can’t wait to get started.’  We met with Gordon to discuss what Ground School will be like for those planning on carrying out the entirety of their pilot training under the Spanish sun.

Meet Gordon: Our Chief Theoretical Knowledge Instructor in Alhama

Gordon brings extensive aviation experience, having started his career as a Theoretical Knowledge Instructor at CAE in Oxford. After five years, he established a Ground School in Oman. Now, as Chief Instructor at Alhama, Gordon will oversee all aspects of Ground School, including training schedules, instructor quality, and the overall student experience.

Ground School in Alhama: What to Expect

Gordon is excited to deliver the same high-quality training at Alhama that our Oxford campus provides, but with a unique twist. He believes Alhama’s smaller campus creates a more personalised learning environment, with plenty of one-on-one teaching. The passion and dedication of our Leading Edge Instructors drive their commitment to helping every student succeed. Gordon, like other LEAL Instructors, often offers extra on campus support outside of classroom hours to help students overcome challenges. Expect the same commitment to student success at Alhama.

A Day in the Life of an Alhama Ground School Student

Ground School days start at 8:30 am and end around 4:00 pm, with six hours of teaching each day. The curriculum covers the same three modules as in Oxford over 28 weeks, though the teaching structure slightly differs based on instructor subject allocation.

This is what a typical teaching day could look like as an Alhama Ground School student (based on a typical Ground School Schedule at our Oxford Campus):

8:30 to 10:30 – Lesson One (2 hours)

10:30 to 11:00 – Break (30 mins)

11:00 to 13:00 – Lesson Two (2 hours)

13:00 to 14:00 – Lunch Break (1 hour)

14:00 to 16:00 – Lesson Three (2 hours)

– End of Day –
